Book Review (Series Three)

I just finished the most amazing series by Anna Todd and it has been stuck on my mind for days. The After series is unlike others I’ve read because it focuses on many real-life struggles like addiction, anger, and abandonment.
Tessa Young is known to be a good girl with a strict mother. She has dated her boyfriend Noah for a few years and liked that Noah was a safe choice. The first day of her freshman year at a university in Washington her life was flipped upside down. Her roommate Steph was a partier with tattoos and flaming red hair. Tessa couldn’t be more different and inexperienced from that life. She never drank and was a virgin. Steph invited Tessa to a frat party that night and that is where she got to officially meet Hardin Scott. Tessa was intrigued by Hardin with all his tattoos and piercings.
After the second party that Tessa attended, Hardin started trying to hang out with Tessa. Tessa started to get feelings for Hardin and she even left Noah. She allowed her relationship with Hardin come between her relationship with her mom, but she felt an undeniable connection toward him. As their relationship progressed secrets started to surface and then the worst one of them all came to light. In a matter of minutes, Tessa’s life and relationship were shattered. The truth of how their relationship started was devasting.
Hardin never thought he would fall in love with Tessa, but the moment he lost her he couldn’t seem to catch his breath. He needed her. Oh, he knew he needed her to get him through the darkness in his life. When she walked away from him he knew he had to get her back.
Tessa Young was blindsided by Hardin and his friends. She felt betrayed and used. She gave so much up to have a life with Hardin and it was all a lie.
Hardin isn’t ready to give up on his relationship with Tessa and he knows that he has to make some drastic changes if he wants to win her back.
Both Hardin and Tessa know they won’t be able to stay away and Tessa would rather forgive him than not be with him, but she had the fear that more secrets would eventually surface…and they did.
Tessa and Hardin had some amazing moments together, but Hardin continues to struggle with fully allowing Tessa in. His past seems to continuously haunt him and then he suddenly reaches his breaking point.
A wedding takes them both to Hardin’s hometown in England and the lies that haunted his childhood came out.
Tessa never thought that she would be leaving England to go back home to the U.S. alone. Hardin couldn’t handle the truth and decided that Tessa was better off without him, but what he didn’t know is what she would find back in the States.
Tessa has arrived back in the U.S. destroyed from Hardin giving up on them, but what she finds at home completely destroys her.
Hardin is completely lost and using alcohol and drugs to ease his pain of losing Tessa, but the death of her father draws him back to the States. The death of Tessa’s father causes him to open his eyes and realize how much he needs Tessa. When Hardin gets to the States Tessa is in a state of shock and doesn’t want anything to do with him.
Hardin knows he will have to work harder than ever before to win her back. Will his efforts work? Will he ever hold Tessa in his arms again?
The fifth book in the After series focuses on Hardin’s point of view of After and how he felt about Tessa when they first met. Before also focuses on where Tessa and Hardin are now and how their friend’s lives were changed by their relationship.
I highly recommend the After series because it is a passionate love story with real-life struggles. Anna Todd does a wonderful job in creating a story that will forever be imprinted on your mind.
Also, After has been created into a movie that will be out in theaters this Friday (April 12th) and I seriously can’t wait.
